SR Venturing Vice Presidents and Boatswain

Vice President of Administration: Adam Villanova

Hi! My name is Adam Villanova, and I am from Crew 366 and Ship 580 in the Lincoln Heritage Council, Area 6, in the Southern Region. I currently serve as Crew Vice President of Program, Ship Boatswain, Council President, Area Vice President of Administration, and Region Vice President of Administration.

I have been involved in Scouting since the age of 6, starting as a Tiger Cub. I went through the ranks of Cub Scouts and earned my Arrow of Light. After crossing over into Boy Scout Troop 176 in Taylorsville, KY, I served as Troop Librarian and Troop Scribe. I earned my Eagle in May of 2008.
Starting in 2008, I served on Camp Crooked Creek’s Camp Staff for 3 summers, teaching such merit badges as First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, Medicine, Disabilities Awareness, Public Health, and Climbing. I served as Assistant Director of Health and Safety my second year on staff.
While on staff, I worked toward advancement in Venturing. I quickly joined my own Crew and have since earned my Outdoor Bronze, Arts and Hobbies Bronze, Sports Bronze, and Religious Life Bronze Awards, as well as my Ranger Award, Gold Award, and Silver Award. I have attained the Rank of Apprentice Sea Scout in Sea Scouting, and plan on having my Sea Scout Bronze Award soon. I plan on being the first in my Council to have earned the Boy Scout Eagle Scout Award, Venturing Silver Award, and Sea Scout Quartermaster Award. I am also working toward the Outstanding Shooting Sports Award, T.R.U.S.T. Award, and Quest Award.

I participated in my Council’s very last VLSC in the Fall of 2010 and acted as a course leader for our Council’s first 2 ILSC courses this year.

I have served on my Council’s VOA for the past 3 years, holding the Office of Vice President of Administration for 2010-2011, and was selected as the 2011-2012 President. I helped plan our Council’s Centennial Jamboree, as well as our Council’s Venturing Search and Rescue event for the past 2 years.

I currently attend the University of Louisville, where I am seeking an Interdisciplinary Degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies. After college, I hope to get my Master’s Degree at the University of Iowa in Religious Studies, and start my career as a Professional Scouter.

Vice President of Program: Casey Thomas

Hey Venturers! My name is Casey Thomas, and I am your current Southern Region Vice President of Program. I reside in Aiken, South Carolina, and I am an active member of Crew 114, the Georgia-Carolina Council, and Southern Region Area 5.

My officer positions are held on various levels of the Venturing  program. Four years ago, I helped start my Crew. I served as President for three years, and this year I am the Vice President of Administration. In addition to serving as the Vice President of Program for the Southern Region, I am the Area 5 Vice President of Administration.

So many awesome experiences have resulted from participating in Venturing. From scuba diving to going on my first backpacking trip at Philmont (75 miles!), it seems like I’ve done it all. However, the most amazing experience I’ve had was participating in the SAJ/BSA Friendship Program this past February. The program sent 28 Scouts from around the nation over to Japan to participate in an international leadership forum and to learn more about the Japanese culture.

Along with participating in high adventure activities, I have earned multiple awards, including the Outdoor Bronze Award, Gold Award, Silver Award, Ranger Award, my religious emblem, and the Council Venturing Leadership Award.

Currently, I am a senior at Aiken High School. My extra time is spent participating in clubs, such as National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Student Council. In addition, I am the captain of the Academic Team and the Layout Editor of the school newspaper.

My future plans consist of majoring in Industrial Engineering and attending Clemson University.
