Southern Region Area 2

Please welcome Ryan J. Mitchell as the 2011 – 2012 Area 2 Venturing President of the Southern Region. Ryan is from Longhorn Council and lives in Grapevine, TX. His term of office began on July 1, 2011. Ryan will be starting his freshman year of college at Tarrant County Community College where he plans to earn his Associates Degree and then transfer to Texas Christian University to earn his Bachelors of Computer Information Technology.

Ryan has been involved in Venturing through Crew 707 for four years. During this time, he has earned numerous awards, including his Outdoor Bronze Award, Venturing Gold Award, and Venturing Silver Award. He is also scheduled to finish his Ranger Award this fall. Ryan has served as Crew Guide, Vice President of Program, Crew President, for Crew 707 and the Longhorn Council VOA President.

Ryan has been staffing Longhorn Council’s National Youth Leadership Training program for 5 years, where he has served as Troop Guide, Troop Instructor, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and was chosen in 2010, to be the Senior Youth Leader of the pilot course, incorporating Venturing male and females into the program. He has also sealed his membership as a Brotherhood member in Order of the Arrow where he has had multiple Chapter, and Lodge positions within the Netopolis Sipo Schipinachk Lodge.

Ryan has spent many years in scouting outside of Venturing; he started in Cub Scouts where he earned the Arrow of Light. Moving on to Boy Scouts, he earned both of the religious awards, Ad Altari Dei, and Pope Pius XII for his Catholic faith along with achieving Eagle Scout with a Bronze Palm in 2009.

As Southern Region Area 2 Venturing President, Ryan is looking forward to spending time meeting everyone in the area, new Venturers, and helping Councils and local Crews make the best out of Venturing. Ryan will be working throughout his term to coordinate an area event where everyone can come together, have fun and learn what each Crew is doing around the area.

Ryan looks forward to seeing what each of you have been doing, and how together, we can grow our Venturing program stronger!
