Jenny's Biography

Boatswain Jenny WallenJennifer Wallen of Asheville, North Carolina, is the 2006 - 2007 Southern Region Sea Scout Boatswain. She joined the Sea Scout and Venturing programs in 2002 with Sea Scout Ship 758 and Crew 3. She became the Boatswain of her Sea Scout Ship on June 21 st 2003 and is the Boatswain for her ship again this year. She is currently also an active member of crew 1910 and an Assistant Scoutmaster for troop 75. Currently Jennifer is the President of the Daniel Boone Council Venturing Youth Officers Association and has held multiple other positions during her time in Sea Scouts.

Jennifer has earned various other awards through Venture and Sea Scouts: Council level Venturing Leadership award at youth level, the United States Heritage Award, Order of The Golden Dragon, Sea Scout Bronze Award, and she is Ordinary rank. She is also extremely close to finishing her Ranger Award as well as the Venture Gold Award.

Jennifer is also a Senior Girl Scout in the Girl Scouts of America, which she has been a member of since she was six years old. She has earned her Cadette Leadership Award, her Silver Award, her Cadette Program Aid Certification, her Senior Leadership Award, and just recently has finished her Girl Scout Gold Award.

Jennifer has taken Venturing Adult Leader Training and Specialized Sea Scout Adult Officer Training. Jennifer is also certified through several training programs: Youth Protection, Climb on Safely, Trek Safely, Safety Afloat, Leave No Trace, Coast Guard Small Boat Safety, VLSC training, and Safe Swim Defense.

Jennifer has been on an Outward Bound Program through a scout scholarship, worked at a Boy Scout Camp for 2 years, Taught at Merit Badge Midways, and taught at University’s of Scouting. She has worked as a volunteer at the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon through the Boy Scouts, gone to area Sea Scout training on a Coast Guard Base in Virginia, and attended Winterfest in January of 2005. She has worked on the staff of and earned her Powderhorn Award. Jennifer recently attended the International Youth Forum in Japan as one of only ten acting group leaders out of two hundred scouts and taken part in the SAJ-BSA Friendship Program in March 2006. And most recently she attended Philmont during this last June.

Jennifer is a college student finishing two Associate Degrees at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College before transferring next year to a four year college to finish her Bachelor Degree in Computer and Commercial Art. She is an active member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society as well as also being an active member of several of the clubs.
